Today I finally got around to go and see local Evanston artist Robert Zatelli, also known as Evanston Bob. I’ve been wanting to start a project with him for awhile now and was happy to see him at a local coffee shop. Although Bob has been homeless for 6 years, he is one of the most positive people I have ever met. He spends his days working on abstract drawings and cards he then sells to people in the neighborhood and local stores. He hauls all of his belongings and art supplies around in a large suitcase on wheels.
“I wish you would have come a few days later,” he laughs, pointing at his beard. “I would have shaved.”
I can’t wait to spend a bit more time with him and actually see him work on his pieces.
