I was really excited when I got the assignment to photograph Ronald Novotny in his Morton Grove home. Novotny, a retired factory worker, collects golf balls from courses in the Chicago suburbs and has thousands of them throughout his home which he later sells. He started collecting in 1952 with his father and has kept on ever since. The last shipment of golf balls he made totaled over 23,000 and he says on a good day he can find around 150 of them in two hours.
“It’s relaxing, it’s a challenge. I know people think I’m really whacked when I’m hunting balls, but I like it.”
