I recently did a volunteer photo shoot at the University of Chicago’s Children’s Hospital with the nonprofit organization Flashes of Hope. Their mission is to change the way children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses see themselves through photography and they also raise money for pediatric cancer research. I set up a backdrop and lights in the hospital and also went for a room visit to photograph an infant. Throughout the day, I kept feeling so lucky to get to spend some time with each of the children and it was very awe inspiring. I have so much respect for them and their families and was so moved by their ability to stay so strong and positive. It was great to step outside of the normal day-to-day routine and connect with some amazing people.
