Detroit Revisited

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

I recently went back to Detroit to scout some more ideas for a project idea I have there. This trip was mostly spent exploring the downtown area which included many trips on the People Mover, Detroit’s elevated transit system. It’s so strange to go back to a place where you once spent so much time and feel like a complete outsider.

Also, sorry about the lack of posting. I was doing a redesign that consumed way too much time. But I’m back!

A Chicago Force

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

I recently started a new project with the Chicago Force, an all women’s tackle football team here in the city. Last Saturday after work, I lugged my tired self to their first home game of the season at North Park University. They played an amazing game and crushed the Wisconsin Warriors. Spent half of my time shooting features, the other half video. Here are some of my favorite stills from the night.

Madison Marathon

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Spent the weekend in Madison at the IPPA-WNPA conference soaking up lots of New Glarus and amazing work from all over the world. Ami Vitale had great advice for starting photo stories and finding grants to do them, Dai Sugano made us all laugh with his methods of multimedia production, Lisa Krantz unveiled her deep dark secret: she really loves shooting parades, and Eric Draper made us all wonder what it would be like to see the world alongside President Bush. We filled our ‘free’ time drinking out of boots and dancing to polka at the Essen House, listening to Suzanne Tennent‘s piano requests at the Edgewater and watching Rob Hart try to capture Caravaggio-esque lighting. Here are some of my favorites from the weekend:
